This is why aside from the ring bearer, a coin bearer is also needed in the wedding entourage. The minister is given 13 coins, and while the groom has his hands cupped above the bride, he passes them to the groom, who in turn allows them to flow into the bride's cupped hands. They are then passed onto a plate held by an acolyte (perhaps an alter boy/girl). The symbolism behind this is that there will always be fidelity and they will have a prosperous life. The groom passing them to the bride is significant as he is to ensure that he takes care of her needs.During the veil ceremony, the veil sponsors are asked to come up to the altar where the bride and groom will be kneeling. A large veil is pinned over the bride's head and around the grooms shoulders. This symbolizes the male being the "head" of the household or "unity" as they are clothed as one.Once this is completed, the cord sponsors are called up to place a white cord, loosely around the couple's neck. It must form a figure-eight which symbolizes their lifelong bond. - [Unity Candle Ceremony](https://www.hawaiiweddingminister.com/unity-candle-ceremony/): Lighting the unity candle during a wedding ceremony is becoming a common tradition in many modern weddings. This ceremony is much more than simply the lighting of a candle and involves other family members, such as the mothers of the couple, or any children the couple may have from previous marriages or relationships. While the ceremony has become a popular custom in many Protestant weddings since the '80s, the unity candle's origins are not easily traceable. - [Unity Sand Ceremony](https://www.hawaiiweddingminister.com/unity-sand-ceremony/): While the Sand Ceremony has become a popular part of the wedding ceremony, it is far from a passing trend. Our current day Sand Ceremony is thought to have its origins in Native American culture, either with Hawaiian ancestry or indigenous groups from the mainland. Traditionally, Native American groups dyed sand with various natural elements. Ochre made yellow-colored sand, gypsum made blue, various flower pollens and powdered roots and bark produced other colors. This colored sand was used to create designs that were part of a highly spiritual ceremony intended for healing. Hawaiians claim the Sand Ceremony as their own bit of history, and add to it a celebratory joy during wedding ceremonies. Brides and grooms have always enjoyed the unreserved beauty of nature that is bestowed on the shores of Hawaii. For years, couples have soaked in Hawaii’s natural outdoor splendor and incorporated it into the wedding ceremony. Some of the most spectacular oceanfront scenes belong to Hawaii. From the beaches of Kauai, Oahu, Maui, or the main island of Hawaii, this Pacific state offers over 100 scenic beaches from which to choose. And each beach is covered with – that’s right – sand.As the wedding couple stood, often barefoot, beside the timeless ocean, waves splashing against the velvety beach, they were reminded of the presence of their creator. It is said that couples would kneel, and scoop up grains of sand to represent the sacred moment. Releasing some to blow back with the wind, they poured their sand into a container to keep, forever reminding them of the vows spoken that day under the Hawaiian sun. The Sand Ceremony combines elements of nature’s glory with a holy moment. Couples want the moment when they say: “I give my love to you, you give your love to me;” or in Hawaiian: “Aloha Aku No, Aloha Mai No,” to be memorable and endearing. - [Lei Exchange Ceremony](https://www.hawaiiweddingminister.com/lei-exchange-ceremony/): Lei Exchange Ceremony Hawaii Wedding Packages starting at just $479 Hawaii wedding officiant : Lei Exchange Ceremony Leis are beautiful wreaths or necklaces of tropical flowers. In ancient times, a lei was worn as a symbol of the wearer’s rank in society. Different ranks were distinguished by the type of flower or complexity of their leis. Today, the governor of Hawaii and other important figures may wear leis for public appearances and holidays. A lei in both ancient and modern times may be worn for important occasions such as births, deaths, victories, graduations, or religious ceremonies. Religious ceremonies incorporating leis were once held to ask the gods for safety when fishing or traveling, or to pray for fertile crops. Depending on the symbolism of the occasion, different varieties of flowers may be incorporated into the lei. This traditional Hawaiian gift is given as a symbol of love, respect, or appreciation. Although in centuries past the lei held very specific meanings, today they are given for many varying occasions and reasons. Although not part of the ancient Hawaiian custom, today a kiss on the cheek often accompanies the lei.Today, leis are often incorporated into weddings. The couple may exchange leis as a symbol of love and commitment. Before this ceremony, the wedding officiate will hold and bless the leis. Lei ceremonies at weddings can also involve the couple giving leis to family members to symbolize the joining of the two families. In Hawaii or for tropical-themed weddings, leis are worn by the wedding party in place of corsages or boutonnieres. Leis are often given as wedding favors as a symbol of appreciation for supporting the couple on their special day.The lei can also be seen as a symbol of the “spirit of aloha” that exists in the Hawaiian Islands. ‘Aloha’ is difficult to translate, but it means a greeting, a farewell, love, joy, hope, and other feelings. The beautiful flower lei is seen as a non-verbal expression of aloha. In Hawaii, May Day has been known as “Lei Day” since 1928. Thousands of leis are given on this day. Today, many tourists receive a lei upon their arrival to the Hawaiian islands as a welcoming gesture.A lei is a special gift that should be treasured. Each lei has been hand-woven, and it represents a gift of love. Each island has its own designated lei color. Some leis are considered quite rare because they are made from special flowers which are not found in large numbers on the Hawaiian Islands. Receiving such a lei is considered a very high honor; many of these leis are created specifically to adorn the important statues and monuments located throughout the islands. - [Scripture Reading](https://www.hawaiiweddingminister.com/scripture-reading/): If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor, and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. - [Wedding Officiant License](https://www.hawaiiweddingminister.com/wedding-officiant-license/): Hawaii Wedding Officiant & Beach Wedding Packages - [Reviews](https://www.hawaiiweddingminister.com/reviews/): Reviews Words from our couples... His beautiful words were exactly what we had envisioned for our day and everything flowed well with the vows that we wrote ourselves. He was very professional in all of our encounters with him via phone, email, and in person. We would definitely recommend having him attend your wedding rehearsal as he gave us very good feedback and guidance for our day. In addition to his service and professionalism, the passion that he has for his role is very apparent and we are so pleased to have had such a genuine and present officiant for our wedding that we will look back on fondly and will remember for the rest of our lives. We most certainly recommend James Chun. Jim & BrookeMarried on 8/13 Thank you so much for making our special moment so wonderful! You were able to schedule our Wedding within only a couple of days and made us feel welcome and special. Thank you so much! Amy & KevinMarried on 6/25 We feel so grateful to have had Rev. Chun officiate our destination wedding in Hawaii! In our first meeting with him, we knew instantly that he was the “one” to marry us. He was incredibly friendly, warm, and professional. He really took the time to get to know us as a couple and understood our vision in planning our ceremony. Leading up to our wedding day, he was very responsive with emails and communication and flexible in meeting with us for our rehearsal. Our wedding ceremony was beautiful and exceeded our expectations. He was eloquent with his words, included the cultural and spiritual elements that we desired, and truly brought our families together as one. We highly recommend Rev. Chun to our closest friends, family, and you! Sujin & EricMarried on 6/20 Reverend Chun was so flexible in our spontaneous desired wedding. His ceremony performance was far more romantic and sentimental than I could have hoped for. He has a calm demeanor and makes for a peaceful setting. Eric & MelanieMarried on 7/13 Excellent choice! Rev Chun was very easy and friendly to deal with. Responded to emails and questions quickly. Despite only meeting him just prior to our wedding, we were very comfortable with him right away. He was on time and professional. I would highly recommend him and his services. Diane & LouisMarried on 4/14 Rev James Chun performed our wedding ceremony on 2/15/2014. It was a very casual ceremony, just the two of us. It was everything we envisioned. Rev James was wonderful and performed our ceremony just as we expected. He was very responsive to my emails, as I was planning from home in New York. He is priced well, very down to earth personality, and he showed up on time. His follow up after was also wonderful and prompt. We received our marriage license within 4 weeks. I would highly recommend Rev James. Diane & RobertMarried on 2/15 Reverend Chun performed an excellent, yet quick & simple ceremony. Really appreciated that he took the time to reply to all of my emails, and answer my questions leading up to the "big day". Definitely recommend him to everyone!! Thank you so much Reverend Chun for making our special day a very memorable one :) Rose & DanielMarried on 7/8 We're from Canada and had our destination wedding in Hawaii. We didn't actually meet or speak to James prior to our wedding day. Our choice was purely based on vendor recommendations from our venue caterer (Halekulani) and our wedding coordinator (ABC), watching previous weddings videos online, and reading reviews of weddings that he's officiated. We were convinced he would be a great officiant to marry us -- and we were so right! James was both professional and personable. During the ceremony, a guest's cellphone rang and James, rather than ignoring it, was able to ease the moment with a good natured "That's my favourite song!" which made us all laugh. We really appreciated his calming presence and his sense of humour. Overall we would definitely recommend James Chun! Kay & FrankMarried on 1/26 We only Skyped with Reverend James once before our wedding and didn't meet in person until right before the ceremony. Despite that, he still made our wedding ceremony meaningful and lovely for us and all of our guests. He helped us put together our ceremony order and was accommodating when there were last minute changes. He does about 1000 weddings a year, so he definitely knows how to make it work! Rebecca & GrantMarried on 9/22 Classy and sophisticated. I worked with this officiant for my destination beach wedding from the New Orleans area. His prearranged packages can take the need out of a wedding planner for a small ceremony. When I went to get my marriage license from the health department, the ladies there said he was very popular. He was able to thoughtfully and elegantly say things during the ceremony that made it seem like he knew us for a long time. I watched videos of other officiants who did not have the calming voice or diction of Reverend James. My guests commented to me on how impressed they were by him. He is highly recommended. Natalie & SaulMarried on 3/4 James made our day extremely special. He did't know us that well, but some how he manage to capture all of what we have gone through and what's important to us in life, in a very special poem. I'm very happy that we those to use James. We even had issues with the weather as we were getting married on the beach, and he was just so helpful and just turned in whatever direction we decided. You will not be disappointed if you choose James, I'm sure he will make your day as special as mine. Maria & RhettMarried on 2/22 Planning a destination wedding can feel like a daunting task, but Rev. James Chun made it easy! He gave me all the instructions I needed so that we were well prepared for our big day! Rev. Chun was very flexible and was willing to change the time of the wedding based on the weather forecast and our photographer so we were ensured good weather! We had a beautiful rainbow for our wedding photos! We will never forget our beautiful Hawaii beach wedding with Rev. Chun! Constance & EarlMarried on 1/31 I picked James based on reading info on his website and other people's reviews on this site. I was a bit hesitant leading up to the wedding because I had never met him before. Met James at our rehearsal and he was very nice and professional! He was on time for both the rehearsal and ceremony. He was very patient as we went through the motions during the rehearsal. He gave me and my fiance pointers on where to look, what to do during the ceremony. Very happy that we chose James to officiate our wedding! On the wedding day, he made it very memorable with his presence and loving words. We are so blessed to have found him. I wouldn't have changed a thing. Thank you Rev. James! Angelyne & BlakeMarried on 8/24 Rev. James Chun was our celebrant at our destination wedding recently and he was exactly the type of officiant we were looking for – pleasant, friendly, and responsive to our requests and wishes. Our ceremony was simple but special – no crude jokes or ‘ball and chain’ type comments. He acknowledged our requests to make no reference to religion and to dress in formal attire (no loud Hawaiian shirts), and made us feel relaxed and confident that our ceremony would run smoothly. We are very happy with our decision to use him as our celebrant and would highly recommend his services. Veronica & GregoryMarried on 5/21 Such a pleasure to have had Rev. James Chun for our ceremony. Very professional and organized which I appreciated. The ceremony could not have been any more perfect. He had my fiancé and I crying our eyes out as we exchanged vows. It's obvious that he enjoys what he does. I appreciated that he did not rush our ceremony. I have been to a few weddings where it felt like the officiant had other places to be, dragged on or just tried to be funny. Trust me, that's one thing your guests will remember! You know you made a right choice when you get compliments from both your vendors and guests on how much they enjoyed your ceremony because of the officiant! To put it simply, my husband and I definitely recommend him! Rachelle & JosephMarried on 12/18 If you are thinking of getting married in Hawaii, I would highly recommend this company. James Chun, responded fast and was extremely knowledgeable with locations and how to pull off a quick wedding. The ceremony he performed couldn’t haven been more perfect and beautiful. We will remember that day forever. Thank you so much James, for making our dream wedding come true in such a short time. It was love.Something older than humanity, more ancient than the desert. What the boy felt at that moment was that he was in the presence of the only woman in his life, and that, with no need for words, she recognized the same thing. Because when you know the language, it’s easy to understand that someone in the world awaits you, whether it’s in the middle of the desert or in some great city. And when two such people encounter each other, the past and the future become unimportant. There is only that moment, and the incredible certainty that everything under the sun has been written by one hand only.
